Turpin Preview

WYOMING COWBOYS (0-1)                                   TURPIN SPARTANS (1-0)

Coming off of a tough one point loss last Thursday, the Wyoming Cowboys next opponent is Turpin, who the Cowboys will face this Friday at home. The Spartans earned their first win last week with a 17-14 win at Withrow.
Last week at Fenwick, Cowboy quarterback Will Marty threw for 307 yards and tied a school record with 6 TDs, and leads a powerful and confident Cowboy Offense into the Turpin game. From what I saw at Fenwick, the Cowboy offense can score readily and often, so I'm interested to see how this Turpin defense will do against them. On the other side of the ball, the Cowboy defense will need to do better than the 345 rushing yards they allowed at Fenwick, since this Spartan team likes to run the ball often. The outcome of this game will definitely depend on Wyoming's ability to stop the running game that Turpin turns to on most of their offensive positions.
Overall, I think that the Cowboys will be able to hold off Turpin and earn their first win as long as they contain inside runs and continue to punch the ball in regularly on offense

Fenwick Game Recap (8/23/12)

   Fenwick 47, Wyoming 46

Last night, the Wyoming Cowboys lost an emotional game to the Fenwick Falcons, 47-46 in Overtime. In an offensive shootout that amassed 1029 yards in total offense for both teams, the Cowboys rode a fourth quarter comeback into Overtime and came a 50/50 ball in the endzone away from a great victory. Even though, they did not come out on top, this game provided a good look at what the 2012 Cowboys team brings to this season. They established a solid run game with Junior Terrell Dailey, excellent Quarterback play in Will Marty, and a decent pass defense.
The Cowboys trailed for most of the game, despite getting on the board first. The game played out with both teams trading touchdowns for the first two quarters. This game type ended with the end of the third quarter, when the Falcons took their largest lead of the game at 15. Then, the Cowboys led a furious fourth quarter comeback, with Will Marty throwing two TDS and the Cowboy defense shutting down Ricky Davis and Fenwick. Wyoming's D really earned their keep by forcing the Falcons to miss a field goal on their final minute drive, and sending the game into Overtime.
In the Overtime Period, Fenwick received the ball first, and scored on their 2nd play from the 20. When it was Wyoming's turn, they worked down to 4th down before finnally getting inside the 10. From there, Will Marty completed a pass to Dominic Vamosi that ended up very close to a touchdown. From the 1, Marty found his 6th TD of the night with Ben Kurtz in the endzone, putting the Cowboys down by one. In a gutsy call by Coach Aaron Hancock, in his first game as head coach, the Cowboys lined up to try for a 2 pt. conversion to win the game. Will Marty threw a pass to the one on one matchup in the left corner of the endzone, where a Fenwick DB came up with the 50/50 grab sealing the win for the Falcons. Marty finished with 304 passing yds., 6 TDs, and 0 INTs. Terrell Dailey finished with 168 yards and 1 TD.
Although the Cowboys didn't come out on top, they showed that they were a very skilled and in sync football team. For a team that lacks elders (only 13 seniors), the underclassmen showed that they can definitely step up and compete this year. Take away the dropped balls by Cowboy wideouts, some TD's called back on penalties, and this game could have very easily been a blowout, with the Cowboys out on top.

Fenwick Preview

      WYOMING COWBOYS                                         FENWICK FALCONS

After a long summer of two-a-day practices and workouts, the Cowboys are ready to take on their first opponent of the year. This Thursday, August 23rd, Wyoming will take on Bishop Fenwick High School in a    Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown match up. This game will be a good first test for this year's Cowboy team.
Fenwick hails from the powerful GCL, and finished last season a strong 8-2. The Falcons lose starter Austin Gearing at Quarterback, as well as leading running back Zach Hoehn.
The main storyline this year for Wyoming will have to be the new head coach, Aaron Hancock, taking the reins from longtime leader Bernie Barre, who retired last year with an outstanding 317 wins in 34 years of coaching.
The Cowboys look to get a fresh start from last year's 6-4 record, as well as 3rd place finish in the CHL. Coach Hancock will take over an offense led by Junior quarterback Will Marty, who last year led the CHL in passing yards with 2054 yds., as well as adding 19 Touchdowns with 11 interceptions. Although they will lose some of their top scorers in Phillip Schuholz and Max Kadish, the Cowboys will turn to senior Tight End Ben Kurtz and Junior Wide Receiver Dominic Vamosi for their points through the air. On Defense, the Cowboys are led by Junior Casey Howell, who led the team in solo tackles last year, Brandford Darlington and Conner Hughes. Although the Cowboys lost last year's leader in tackles, Dennis Austin, the Cowboy defense should be quite solid this year.

Location: Sycamore High School
Game Time: 8 pm

Introduction

Welcome to the Wyoming Sports Network. I am Jack, a freshman at Wyoming High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. This fall, I will be bringing you all the news and coverage of the Wyoming Cowboys football team. I will attend nearly all the varsity football games and will provide a game recap (usually a day after the game) and a preview of the next week's game. I will also try to include interviews with players and coaches as much as possible. Hopefully this blog will be very useful for you to follow this team through their year. Enjoy.
