Fenwick 47, Wyoming 46
Last night, the Wyoming Cowboys lost an emotional game to the Fenwick Falcons, 47-46 in Overtime. In an offensive shootout that amassed 1029 yards in total offense for both teams, the Cowboys rode a fourth quarter comeback into Overtime and came a 50/50 ball in the endzone away from a great victory. Even though, they did not come out on top, this game provided a good look at what the 2012 Cowboys team brings to this season. They established a solid run game with Junior Terrell Dailey, excellent Quarterback play in Will Marty, and a decent pass defense.
The Cowboys trailed for most of the game, despite getting on the board first. The game played out with both teams trading touchdowns for the first two quarters. This game type ended with the end of the third quarter, when the Falcons took their largest lead of the game at 15. Then, the Cowboys led a furious fourth quarter comeback, with Will Marty throwing two TDS and the Cowboy defense shutting down Ricky Davis and Fenwick. Wyoming's D really earned their keep by forcing the Falcons to miss a field goal on their final minute drive, and sending the game into Overtime.
In the Overtime Period, Fenwick received the ball first, and scored on their 2nd play from the 20. When it was Wyoming's turn, they worked down to 4th down before finnally getting inside the 10. From there, Will Marty completed a pass to Dominic Vamosi that ended up very close to a touchdown. From the 1, Marty found his 6th TD of the night with Ben Kurtz in the endzone, putting the Cowboys down by one. In a gutsy call by Coach Aaron Hancock, in his first game as head coach, the Cowboys lined up to try for a 2 pt. conversion to win the game. Will Marty threw a pass to the one on one matchup in the left corner of the endzone, where a Fenwick DB came up with the 50/50 grab sealing the win for the Falcons. Marty finished with 304 passing yds., 6 TDs, and 0 INTs. Terrell Dailey finished with 168 yards and 1 TD.
Although the Cowboys didn't come out on top, they showed that they were a very skilled and in sync football team. For a team that lacks elders (only 13 seniors), the underclassmen showed that they can definitely step up and compete this year. Take away the dropped balls by Cowboy wideouts, some TD's called back on penalties, and this game could have very easily been a blowout, with the Cowboys out on top.
