WYOMING COWBOYS (1-2) |
MADEIRA MUSTANGS (3-0) |
Entering it's first week of CHL play, the Wyoming Cowboys had just come off two heartbreaker losses, one by a 2OT field goal and another by a late touchdown that gave them a one point defeat. This week will be extremely important, as they Cowboys face the reigning CHL Champs, the Madeira Mustangs (3-0).
Madeira enters Week 4 coming off a 49-12 win over North College Hill, where Mustang QB Matt Ballweg threw for 182 yards and 2 TDs. Madeira is, like the last two teams Wyoming has played, a rush heavy offense, with 61 percent of their plays on the ground. They hand the ball to Senior Jewels Edmerson, who currently has 313 yards, good enough for 3rd in the league. Not that this Mustang offense can't pass, in fact it's quite the opposite. QB Matt Ballweg leads the CHL is passing yards with 785, and is trailing the passing TD lead behind Will Marty by one.
Last season, the Cowboys lost a rainy final game of the season at Madeira 21-7, with an offensive showcase of 689 total yards between the two teams. This year I think we can see more of the same. Two offense savvy teams, and two defenses that have lots of holes. The Mustangs D has allowed more than 800 total yards in 3 games, while Wyoming has let up 614. As it turns out, these 800 yards were still good enough for an undefeated start to the season, while the Cowboys need a win to claw back into CHL contention.
